Singapore Hotels...Insider Experience...
Singapore Hotels
standards are high, so are the prices. This is my honest opinion since
I have lived in Singapore for the first twenty-five years of my life
and travel to Singapore at least once a year to visit my family.
If you travel to Singapore
for the first time, chances are you will be staying in some of the
hotels located in the central part of Singapore, ie Orchard Road,
Scotts Road, City Hall and Suntec City etc.
You
can locate a full range of Singapore hotels that will meet your budget,
from a top suite from Raffles Hotel at $6000 a night (Michael Jackson
and many other celebrities stayed here) to $45 or less in a cheap hotel
located in the heartland of Singapore.
In
the major Singapore hotels, a 5% Goods and Service Tax, GST, 1%
government tax and 10% service charge are added to your bill. You know
when you see quoted price like $140+++. Since Singapore is such a small
island, it does not really matter where you are staying. I will try to
guide you along the line of proximity, the places you can go to see
near these hotels...
Most Expensive Singapore Hotels
Raffles Hotel is one of the two Singapore entries listed the 2003 guide-book called 1,000 Places To See Before You Die.
Raffles
Hotel is located very close to Raffles City, a shopping mall. The
nearest train station located there is City Hall Station. I reckon if
you can afford to stay in Raffles Hotel, you would not be walking so I
shall stop here.
Next on the list of the most expensive Singapore Hotels is the Fullerton Hotel Singapore. The nearest train station is the Raffles Station - one station away from the City Hall Station.
If
you are staying at the Fullerton Hotel, you are very close to the
Singapore River, the Central Business District - CBD and Boat Quay
where some of the fine Singapore restaurants are located.
If
you are keen for a boat ride along the Singapore River, walk along the
Boat Quay and lookout for a Boat Taxi Kiosk. If you are looking for
Orchard hotels in Singapore or hotels located along the Scotts Road,
Orchard Road area, there are quite a few selections too...
Singapore Marriott is located very close to the Orchard Station.
The nearby shopping malls are the Wisma Atria and the CK Tangs. Less than 1 minute away is the Grand Hyatt. Located along Scotts Road, the nearest mall is the Far East Shopping Center.
Best Value for Money Singapore Hotels
For the best value for money, close proximity to all the major attractions...I recommend...Grand Plaza Parkroyal Hotel,
it is ideal for your Singapore vacation. It is located right in the
heart of a quaint civic and arts district in Singapore with good
proximity to the Singapore metro system - City Hall MRT and most
attractions at a relatively low price.
With
its location conveniently near the Central Business District - CBD,
convention and exhibition centers, popular shopping mall - Raffles City
and entertainment outlines, this Singapore hotel is unique with its
blend of historical grandeur and contemporary finesse.
Cheapest Singapore Hotels For the cheapest but highly recommended option, try a Singapore Hostel called The Inn Crowd. Beyond a hostel it is also a a practical updated guide on backpacking in Singapore and her neighbors on the cheap.
It
provides information, tips and free, printable off-the-beaten-track
self-guided tours with their own travelboard. Located in Little India,
you are still quite near to the train station.
In
fact, you can almost reach every part of Singapore if you rely on the
subway system alone or what is known as the MRT. Personally, I would
recommend you to get a full day MRT pass from any of the train stations and start exploring Singapore by alighting at each station and start walking.
Along
the East Line, you can go as far as the Changi Airport. Along the West
Line, it would take you to Boon Lay station, the nearest shopping mall
is called the Jurong Point is within walking distance. You can be
assured of cheap shopping and good food almost anywhere in Singapore
especially if you venture out of the town area, ie Orchard, Scotts,
City Hall etc.
