Yellowstone Park Lodging Guide
Yellowstone Park lodging
fills fast so try to make reservations early. Even if you think you are
too late in your Yellowstone vacations, you should at least try to find
a room in the park.
Staying
there is more convenient and allows you to experience it more
intimately. The rooms range from very nice and modern with tub and
shower to rustic cabins with only a sink to canvas walled structures
with no plumbing.
All
Yellowstone park lodging accomodation does have nearby access to
restrooms and showers but none has televisions or radios. All park
reservations should be made through Xanterra Resorts & lodging.
If you want to get away from the crowds for a while try a trip on Yellowstone Lake. It’s gorgeous and the fishing's great.
Outboards
and rowboats may be rented (first come, first served) from Xanterra
Parks & Resorts at Bridge Bay Marina on Yellowstone Lake. Xanterra
also provides guided fishing boats, which may be reserved in advance by
calling (307)344-7311.
The
Bridge Bay Marina also has boat-launching ramps to accommodate people
who bring their own boats. One favorite lodging is the rustic Old
Faithful Lodge cabins. It is relatively cheap and centrally located to
many of the sights in the park.
It
is quite rustic but the location is great and it serves its purpose as
a place to sleep. The other place at Old Faithful also has the benefit
of excellent location. I like the Old Faithful Inn but it’s more expensive.
It
is a beautiful building and most of the rooms were recently remodeled
and are quite comfortable. It’s fun to stay there and think of all the
other famous people who have slept in one of those rooms.
I
think the Old Faithful Snow Lodge cabins are very nice too. Other good
locations are at Lake, Grant Village and to a lesser extent Canyon.
Mammoth and Roosevelt are further away from the center, although some
people really enjoy Roosevelt. These all have differing opening and
closing dates so contact Xanterra for dates.
Alternate Yellowstone Park Lodging: Campsites
Park
campsites are all in designated places and fill up FAST so contact the
Park Service for reservations. There are campgrounds outside the Park
but none as nice so do try to make a reservation.
If
you can't find rooms in the Yellowsone Park lodging try the gateway
towns. These towns may not be as convenient and do not have the charm
of staying in the park but they offer many more lodging options. They
also have television and nightlife of sorts. Those are also the places
to find restaurants. Warn the kids, though, that there are NO malls in
any of these places.
